Who we are

We are an interim leadership group made up of Traditional Owners, organising The National Gathering. For the purpose of organising this gathering we are called the Council of First Nations.

At the Gathering, you will decide whether a national leadership body is required, and if so, the formal governance arrangements, a board, a permanent name and the strategic direction for the organisation.

We recognise and honour the work that was done before us, and the continuing work of First Nations organisations across the continent.

We welcome leaders from Land and Native Title Councils, representative bodies and community-controlled organisations who have been democratically elected by their mobs. You can join the Council of First Nations and our organising efforts for The National Gathering.

Just as our people have shaped this continent by sharing our songlines, culture, law and ceremony, we will shape the future walking together.
